(Explanation : Testing the collision avoidance of the autonomous navigation system)

On October 12th, the autonomous navigation system ‘HiNas Control’ was installed on ‘SEA SHANGHAI,’ the management ship of POS SM(Operating ship of Pan Ocean) and commenced full-fledged operation.

Operating the ship equipped with the autonomous navigation system is the first achievement of the agreement among POS SM, Pan Ocean, HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering and Avikus.

Pan Ocean, KR, and Avikus jointly conducted test operations for the stable application of the autonomous navigation system and successfully conducted various tests during the sea trial period, including route planning, route tracking, speed tracking, collision avoidance and safety function inspection of the product.

In addition, prior to operating autonomous navigation, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and the Panama Flag Bureau approved the permanent installation after reviewing the system according to ship facility standards that is the first case in which the bureau approved.

The autonomous navigation system can operate the optimal route and avoid collisions by analyzing information collected from various navigation equipment and sensors using Artificial Intelligence(AI) and Augmented Reality(AR). It was developed to assist navigation, such as reducing navigation fatigue for deck officer, and is expected to contribute to carbon reduction through safe operation and improved fuel efficiency.

Ahn Joong-ho, CEO of Pan Ocean, said, "We will actively participate so that Korea can lead international standardization technology in the ship's autonomous navigation sector and secure its status and technological leadership in the international community," and added, "We will spare no cooperation and support to achieve the '2050 carbon neutrality' declared by Pan Ocean."

In response, Kim Myeong-su, CEO of POS SM, said, "We expect to further improve the operation efficiency of ships through operating this autonomous navigation solution," and added, "At POS SM, we will spare no effort to provide safety management and active technical support for the stable operation and successful demonstration of this system."
